We the objective of assisting parents in marking out their children’s educational plans who have exceptional needs, the Gardiner Scholarship (PLSA) program plays a long role. Gardiner Scholarship Program 2021/2022 is now receiving applications for new students.

January 2016, the new name, Gardiner Scholarship which was formerly known as the Personal Learning Scholarship Account, honors Florida Senate President Andy Gardiner and his family, who played a lead role for the legislative push to establish the program.

For many years, The Gardiner’s family played a significant role on the cause of caring for children with exceptional abilities. And it should be noted that the Gardiners have three children; two girls and a boy with Down syndrome, named Andrew.

Gardiner Scholarship Program 2021/2022

The Gardiner Scholarship developed an advance way that allows parents to tailor their children’s education by directing money on a combination of programs. The likes of Schools, therapists, experts, curricula, technology, and even a college savings account are among them and recognized providers.

This innovation makes the Gardiner scholarship so different and unique.

The Scholarship is open for students in the impairments 12th grade who have special needs including students aged 3 to 22 years old in Florida.

It is to be noted that the program is available for Florida students. To be eligible for this program, it is required of you to be aged 3 to 12, or until they reach the age of 22, whichever comes first, who have one of the following diagnoses:

  • Having a dual sensory impairment
  • Disability of the mind
  • Impairment of language
  • Being a child at high risk
  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Down syndrome
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • A behavioral or emotional deficiency
  • Hearing loss, including deafness
  • Homebound or in the hospital
  • Dystrophy of the muscles
  • Specific learning disability
  • Impairment of speech
  • Spina bifida
  • Orthopedic deficiency
  • Other health issues
  • Phelan-McDermid syndrome
  • The Prader-Willi syndrome
  • Rare diseases
  • TBI (traumatic brain injury)
  • Blindness, as well as visual impairment
  • Williams syndrome

On or before September 1, as a student you must be at least three or four years old

On or before September 1, as a kindergarten student you must be 5 years old

By September 1, it is also required that students entering first grade must be six years old

After registration, registered pupil cannot be registered for any other state-sponsored scholarship including McKay Scholarship or Florida Tax Credit Scholarship. However, to be part of home education, students can enroll in the Gardiner Scholarship Program (PLSA).

To be qualified, it is also required that students must have a Florida school district’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or an official diagnosis from a Florida-licensed physician or psychologist.

Gardiner Scholarship Providers

As a provider of specialized services, it is required of you attain these underlisted criteria:

It is required that you must be from an organization that has been accredited as a provider by the Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD).

It is required that you are licensed by the Florida Department of Health.

Also, it should be stated that it is required that you must be a member of staff who works for an organization that is legally designated as a provider by the Office of Early Learning for Specialized Instructional Services Provider (SIS), that includes behavior analysts certified by the Behavioral Analyst Certification Board.

More rover, in the state of Florida on the BACB website, It is required that you be identified as a practitioner.

To be approved as a providers’ specialized services, it’s required that you meet the following criteria which includes the following, but not limited to:

Services for Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)

It is required that you must be a licensed Speech Language Pathologist provides services (SLP)

Also, services rendered by a professional occupational therapist or licensed physical therapists

Gardiner Scholarship Application

Renewal Families this entails that your kid received a Step-Up Gardiner scholarship (previously PLSA) for the 2017-2018 school year.

For the 2021 academic year, The New Families are also taking scholarship applications, with privileges given to kids who have previously been waitlisted.

It is required that all applicants must have a valid email address in order to create an online application.

What Does the Gardiner Scholarship Pay For?

Based on grade, county of domicile, and disability, the cost of the scholarship differs. But however, the sums of the awards for the 2021-22 academic year are still in view.

As a student enrolling for the program, having a Level I to Level III matrix of services or a diagnosis by a physician or psychologist, the computed scholarship amount must be based on the grade level and school district in which the kid would have been enrolled.

Also, the allocation of funds is projected to be based on the average exceptional student education, guaranteed allocation of funds per exceptional student education full-time equivalent student in the school district.

Also, varying sources had proven the fact that the projected amount of the grant for a student who won a Gardiner Scholarship in the 2020-2021 school year will be the more that the amount determined above or the amount the student received for the 2020-2021 academic session.

Application Closing Date

It is required that all applications should be submitted on or before 30th of June, 2022, as those who submit prior the deadline will be privileged.

As a result of the requirement to prioritize renewal students, it should be noted that all new students found qualified for the Gardiner Scholarship 2021 will be placed on a waitlist.
